Welcome to the AFF Newsletter on Substack.
Being a father is the most important job I've ever had. Period.
Nothing measures up to the task of being a dad. The significance of my role is not lost on me.
There are so many aspects to being a good father. To be honest, sometimes it can be a little overwhelming.
But that's because I care. If I didn't, I wouldn't feel overwhelmed at all, it'd be easy. I'd do the bare minimum.
My love for my son doesn't allow me to do that though. I want to serve him the best I can.
In fact, a lot of what I do during my day/week/month is geared towards providing a good life for him.
As a father, facing our fears and making sacrifices are for the benefit of our kids.
It's just the way it has to be.
I love being a dad, especially now that I don't drink.
If I drank, I imagine it'd feel like I had another child. My drinking needed lots of my attention! Alcohol was my baby. And it often didn't want to share me with anyone.
So, breaking free from the shackles of booze has made me step up as a dad with a laser focus on my role.
Am I perfect? No.
Do I get things wrong? Yes.
Am I willing to show up every day for my son? Absolutely.
I may not be perfect but I'm always making progress.
If I keep leading by example, parenting with love and encouraging him to try new things, then I'm doing a good job.
He is a wonderful boy and I'm blessed to be his dad.
I love watching his journey through life and I'm so grateful to be a part of it.
Thank you for reading and stay tuned for more from my fatherhood journey as well as articles highlighting the importance fathers have in the lives of their children.
